How Dover Came Together for Stephen, Hannah & Liberty-Rose

The Story
March 2025
Stephen was diagnosed with a rare malignant peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma after discovering a lump on his abdomen.
July 2025
Major surgery removed the tumour leaving Stephen with 77 staples across his stomach. Doctors believed he could move forward with life normally.
October 2025
Just weeks after proposing to Hannah, Stephen received devastating news, the cancer had returned aggressively and was no longer operable.
3 Weeks
With only weeks to organise a wedding, Dover businesses, neighbours, friends and strangers came together to create a day filled with love, memories and support.
The Proposal
Just weeks before everything changed, Stephen asked Hannah to marry him.
Like any young couple planning their future together they should have been looking ahead to a lifetime of memories with their daughter ( age 1 ) Liberty-Rose, birthdays, holidays, milestones and growing old together.
Instead, only weeks later they were handed devastating news no family is ever prepared to hear.
Doctors confirmed Stephen’s rare cancer had returned aggressively and was no longer operable.
The future they had imagined suddenly became uncertain.

Three Weeks To Create A Wedding
With only months left and time feeling painfully fragile, family, friends, neighbours and local businesses across Dover came together with one goal, to give Stephen and Hannah the wedding day they deserved.
What followed was extraordinary.
Within just three weeks and a facebook plea, people from across the community had stepped forward offering their time, services, donations, decorations, flowers, food, photography, entertainment and support.
People who had never even met the family wanted to help create something meaningful.
What could have been defined purely by heartbreak instead became a reflection of love, kindness and community.

Behind The Scenes
While the community stepped forward in incredible ways, bringing everything together in just three weeks was far from easy.
For Bluebirds owner Kayleigh Aldred, the wedding quickly became more than simply organising an event.
It became personal.
For weeks, days blended into nights filled with phone calls, supplier messages, planning, rearranging schedules and trying to coordinate every small detail needed to create a wedding in an impossibly short amount of time with a phenomenal amount of different suppliers.
Unlike a traditional wedding with contracted suppliers and long lead times, this was different.
Many businesses and individuals were donating their services purely out of kindness, meaning every conversation, arrangement and timeline required patience, flexibility and constant communication.
There were moments of pressure, exhaustion and overwhelming responsibility.
But none of that mattered compared to making sure Stephen, Hannah and Liberty-Rose were given amazing memories they could hold onto and cherish forever.
Every decoration, every table setting, every supplier, every conversation and every late night carried one goal…. to create a day filled with love instead of sadness.
For a few short weeks, life outside of the wedding stood still.
And looking back now, it was worth every second.

The Convoy
When word spread about Stephen and Hannah’s wedding, support came from every direction.
But one moment in particular would stay with everyone forever.
Stephen worked for Veolia and without his knowledge his colleagues had been planning something special behind the scenes.
On the morning of the wedding, Stephen left home believing he was simply heading to Bluebirds to marry Hannah.
Instead, as the wedding car turned the corner, he was met by a line of Veolia lorry‘s waiting for him.
One by one, the bin lorries pulled out behind the car, creating a moving convoy through Dover led by the people Stephen had worked beside every day.
Drivers sounded their horns as they travelled through the town while people stopped, watched and came onto the streets to see what was happening.
When the convoy arrived at Bluebirds, the lorries lined the road outside the venue.
The drivers stepped down from their vehicles dressed in their orange Veolia workwear and stood waiting together for Stephen to exit his wedding car.
For a few emotional moments, the world stood still.
As Stephen stepped out of the wedding car, he was greeted by cheers, applauses, handshakes, hugs and tears from the people who cared about him the most.
It was not planned for attention.
It was not created for social media.
It was simply a group of colleagues showing love and respect for one of their own during the hardest chapter of his life.
The moment quickly spread across social media and news outlets touching thousands of people far beyond Dover.
But for those standing outside Bluebirds that day, it meant far more than something viral.
It was a reminder of the kind of humanity that still exists when people come together.

The Wedding
Despite the heartbreak that had brought everyone together, the wedding day itself was filled with warmth, laughter, love and unforgettable moments.
Bluebirds was transformed through the kindness of local businesses, volunteers, friends and strangers who gave their time, services and hearts to create something special for Stephen, Hannah and Liberty-Rose.
From the flowers and decorations to the cake, entertainment, photography and finishing touches, every detail carried meaning.
Nothing about the day felt ordinary.
As Hannah walked down the aisle and Stephen waited surrounded by the people who loved him most there was not a dry eye in the room.
But alongside the emotion was joy.
Real joy.
For a few precious hours, the focus was not on illness, fear, or uncertainty.
It was on family.
On memories.
On love.
Children laughed, music filled the room, glasses were raised and people who had never met before stood together like lifelong friends.
The day became everything a wedding should be, not defined by sadness but by togetherness, celebration and hope.
And for Stephen, Hannah and Liberty-Rose, it created memories that can be cherished forever.
More Than A Wedding
What began as an urgent mission to organise a wedding in just three weeks became something far bigger than anyone expected.
It became a reflection of what can happen when people choose kindness.
Businesses donated services without hesitation.
Suppliers rearranged schedules.
Neighbours, friends and complete strangers offered support and donations simply because they wanted to help.
People gave their time, their energy, their resources and their heart to create moments that matter for a family facing unimaginable circumstances.
For Bluebirds, this wedding became a powerful reminder of why creating meaningful memories matters so much.
Every wedding carries emotion, importance and responsibility.
But this one came with extraordinary circumstances, immense pressure and a race against time that touched everyone involved.
What made it different was not the level of care given, but the scale of what had to be achieved in such a short amount of time and the overwhelming support that came from the community to make it happen.
It showed what is possible when people come together with compassion, kindness, and one shared purpose.
This story was never about perfection.
It was about humanity.
And in a world that can often feel disconnected, Dover showed exactly what community truly means.

In Loving Memory of Stephen
What began as a community coming together to create a wedding filled with love, support and unforgettable memories ultimately became a story about one man who touched the heart of so many people around him.
On the 24th of December 2025 Stephen peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family and closest friends.
Throughout everything Stephen showed strength, courage and love for the people around him and his story brought an entire community together in ways nobody could have imagined.
The memories created during this time, especially the wedding day shared with Hannah and Liberty-Rose will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
Our thoughts and love will always remain with Hannah, Liberty-Rose and all of Stephen’s family and friends.
May he rest peacefully.
